FAQs

Questions, answered

What is FBA prep, and why do I need it?

Amazon has strict rules about how stock arrives at its fulfilment centres. Every unit needs the right barcode, the right packaging and no conflicting labels. Getting it wrong means delays, extra fees, or a shipment being refused. Prep is the work of getting all of that right before your stock is sent in.

What is included in Standard Prep?

Receiving your inventory, inspecting your products, and applying one FNSKU label per unit, at 55p per unit. Anything beyond that, such as poly bagging, bubble wrapping, bundling or sticker removal, is priced separately so you only pay for what your products actually need.

Can you remove existing barcodes and stickers?

Yes. Sticker removal is charged at 20p per unit, on top of Standard Prep. That covers the great majority of labels. If an adhesive turns out to be unusually stubborn and the job needs extra time, that time is charged at £7.50 for each 15 minutes, and we will agree it with you before we carry on.

How quickly will my stock be prepped?

We aim to have your shipment prepped and ready to ship within 48 working hours, and we do our best to meet that on every order. It isn’t a guarantee: how long prep takes depends on the volume, so larger or more complex orders can take longer. If we expect yours to, we’ll tell you rather than leave you guessing.

The 48 hours start once your prep invoice is paid. We send that invoice after your stock has arrived and been checked, so you pay for what actually arrived. When your shipment is ready, we send the carriage invoice, and it goes out as soon as that is settled.

Is there a minimum order?

We have a minimum charge of £25 per shipment. This helps us cover the receiving, handling and processing involved with every shipment, regardless of size.

When do I pay?

In two stages: the prep work first, then carriage.

Once your inventory has been received and the required prep services have been confirmed, an invoice will be issued detailing the work to be carried out. That prep invoice is payable in full before prep work begins.

Any additional services or charges identified during the prep process will be discussed and agreed with you before being carried out, where reasonably possible.

Carriage is not part of the prep fee. Once your shipment is packed we can price it, and it is invoiced separately. Nothing is dispatched until every invoice on your order is settled. See “Who arranges the shipment to Amazon?” below.

How long can you store my stock?

We’re a prep service, not a long-term storage facility. Customer inventory is processed and prepared for Amazon FBA as efficiently as possible, helping keep stock moving through the prep process and on its way to Amazon.

Storage is limited and intended for short-term operational purposes only. If additional storage is required, please contact us to discuss availability and options.

Who arranges the shipment to Amazon?

Borders Prep will arrange the courier shipment of your prepared inventory to the Amazon warehouse, and recharge the shipping cost to you.

Carriage is not included in our prep fees. Where applicable, it is calculated once your shipment is ready for dispatch and invoiced separately. Orders are dispatched once all outstanding charges have been paid.

We’ll handle the shipping arrangements so you don’t have to worry about organising the courier yourself.

Is my stock insured while it is with you?

Borders Prep maintains appropriate business insurance for the services we provide, including cover relating to customer goods in our care.

For full details of our insurance arrangements and applicable limits, please contact us.

Are your prices inclusive of VAT?

No. Every price shown is plus VAT. Borders Prep is VAT registered, and VAT is added to your invoice at the current rate.

Where are you based?

In the Scottish Borders. We work with sellers across the UK and internationally, so you do not need to be local to send us your stock.
